Moto G Google Play Edition Launched

Moto G Google Play Edition Launched

Google has expanded its lineup of devices that offer the “Nexus” experience with the Moto G Google Play Edition. Announced today, the Moto G GPE brings unadulterated Android OS at an affordable price. The smartphone is available for purchase now through the Play Store. Motorola, a Google owned company, launched the Moto G last year. It has been well received, primarily due to the fact that it offers mid-range specifications at a very attractive price. This smartphone is already being sold by retailers, a number of mobile carriers and even Motorola itself.

The reason why Google Play Edition devices are increasingly becoming popular is because they’re first in line after Nexus devices to receive a new major Android update. Moreover, they give tinkerers more freedom and come pre-installed with stock Android, with no carrier or OEM optimizations to the user interface. This means a much more smoother user experience. With a 4.5 inch HD display and quadcore processor, the Google Play Edition Moto G costs $179 and $199 for 8GB and 16GB flavors, unlocked and compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile. Moto G GPE also features interchangeable backs, allowing users to choose from a variety of colors and types to add a splash of color whenever they want. Best of all, Moto G Google Play Edition comes with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Test Build Leaks Out

Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Test Build Leaks OutSamsung’s flagship smartphone, at least for the moment, is the Samsung Galaxy S4, so what better way to treat your flagship device than to introduce the latest version of the mobile operating system for it? We have received word that the Android 4.4 KitKat test build has already leaked out, where this particular test build has targeted the Samsung Galaxy S4. The leaked test build of the new firmware is meant for the GT-I9505 version of the Galaxy S4, which so happens to be the model that supports LTE connectivity, and with it, the main change where looks are concerned would be the status bar alongside its all-white icons. These tend to be in line with some of the recently published Google guidelines, while the green shade that Samsung had stuck to for so long to depict its battery icon has been dropped.

Apart from that, a new camera shortcut now appears on the lockscreen to make it faster for you to enter camera mode from a locked position, but apart from that, it is pretty much the same TouchWiz experience that many would have gotten used to since Android 4.3. This does throw some light on another matter though – the recently leaked TouchWiz design might only arrive with the next version of the Galaxy S handset, and not in this generation. Only time will tell.

Moto G Android 4.4 KitKat Update Rolling Out In Additional Markets

Moto G Android 4.4 KitKat Update Rolling Out In Additional Markets

Motorola announced the Moto G smartphone late last year and it was one of the first devices, after Google’s Nexus crop, to receive the brand new Android 4.4 KitKat update. Though at that time the update was only rolled out to Moto G units sold in the U.S. The company said that KitKat would be released for other markets in 2014. January has started and 2014 is finally here, and it appears that Motorola has kept its word. Reports coming in from various countries around the globe indicate that the KitKat international roll out has now begun.

Moreover, Motorola has posted details about the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Moto G on its official UK website, which confirms that a broader roll out is now under way. Even if the update isn’t immediately available in your region, it should pop up in the very near future. The Moto G Android 4.4 KitKat update weighs in at about 175MB, it can be downloaded over Wi-Fi and will automatically install once its downloaded on the device. Since Motorola now uses near-stock Android on its mobile devices, the changelog isn’t too long, it merely lists all of the features and improvements that are offered as part and parcel of KitKat.

LG G2 Android 4.4 Update Apparently Rolled Out To A Fraction Of Owners In Korea

LG G2 Android 4.4 Update Apparently Rolled Out To A Fraction Of Owners In Korea

We recently reported that LG Korea had started to roll out the much awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update for its flagship smartphone in Korea. It appears that the company might have been conducting a soak test. Usually OEMs conduct soak tests with volunteers, they seed the update to a few people in order to be absolutely sure that there aren’t any issues with the update. Reports coming in from Korea suggest that the Android 4.4 update was only rolled out to five percent of all G2 owners in the country.

It is claimed that LG found no bug after the limited roll out of this update and that it has now given the go ahead to start releasing Android 4.4 KitKat for the remaining G2 owners in the country. There have been some reports from those who received the update that they’re noticing battery and browser problems on their devices, but the issues don’t appear to be plaguing everyone who received said update. LG Korea is expected to start releasing Android 4.4 to all G2 owners in Korea from next week. It is still not known when the company plans to finally release the hotly anticipated update in other major markets such as the U.S., certainly G2 owners Stateside would be itching to get their hands on some chocolatey goodness.
