Amazon Prime Membership Cost May Rise Soon

In the nine years since Amazon Prime was first launched, the service’s price has remained constant, its a $79 per year subscription that gives customers free two-day shipping of over 19 million goods purchased through the world’s largest online marketplace. Unfortunately, its possible that the Amazon Prime membership cost might go up in the near future. Amazon said in a call with investors and analysts that an increase between $20 and $40 is possible for customers in the U.S.

Sub-$300 Amazon Console Reportedly In Development

amazon-4k-programmingDo you think that the video game console market has gotten more saturated with Microsoft joining in the fray, or are the big three – Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony just nice, maintaining the balance of power perfectly among them? Word on the street has it that another player might yet make its way to the game console market, and that would be Amazon. This is certainly rather weird considering the nature of the company as well as the businesses that it is involved in. A new rumor through unnamed sources has pointed out that Amazon delayed the introduction of their Android-based console, although the company has promised a 2014 rollout with a price tag that is under $300.

Amazon Looking To Ship Items Even Before You Buy Them

Amazon Looking To Ship Items Even Before You Buy Them

It goes without saying that Amazon has a treasure trove of data on consumer habits, but how can it leverage said data to further improve its service and deal a death blow to physical stores? ”Anticipatory shipping” might be the answer, which just so happens to be the name of a new patent granted to the Seattle based online retailer. This patent describes a method of shipping items to a delivery hub in a specific area where Amazon expects customers to purchase them quite a lot, but haven’t ordered as yet. The decision to ship an item to a hub would be based on previous orders from that particular area and a few other factors.

There are a lot of Veronica Mars fans out there who just can’t get enough of the TV series. Even when it was axed after its three season run, those fans came together through the power of the internet and raised over $5 million just so the Veronica Mars movie could be crowdfunded and ultimately brought to the big screen. That happens on March 14th and if you’re looking to catch up on the TV series before catching the movie, Amazon has you covered. The company announced today that Prime Instant Video is now the exclusive online only subscription home for the Veronica Mars TV series, with all three seasons being available for on demand streaming.

Amazon Confirms Giant Box Found On Reddit Is Real

Amazon Confirms Giant Box Found On Reddit Is RealIf you have been keeping an eye on your Facebook newsfeed or lounging about in reddit, you might have noticed a photo go by, which is a photo of a truck with what appears to be a huge box from Amazon on the back. Naturally some were wondering if this could be real, and more importantly does Amazon even have a box that big? Naturally some were calling this a hoax. Even comedian Jerry Seinfeld thought it was a fake as well, but as it turns out it is real as an Amazon spokeswoman was recently confirmed that the box is indeed real.

In a email, Amazon’s Kristin Schaefer Mariani wrote, “Yes, it’s real. [I]t’s Nissan delivering a Versa Note, the final component of the advertising program we worked with them on late last year.” There were some who speculated that this could be the case, but we guess no one really thought that Amazon would actually deliver said vehicle in a box packaged that way. Then again Amazon’s boxes are sort of iconic, even spawning toys such as Danbo which is a little toy figurine whose body is made using Amazon’s boxes. Now that we know that the box is real, we have to wonder if Amazon might have even bigger boxes in their factory. What do you guys think?

Three New States Join List That Pays Sales Tax On Amazon Purchases

Three New States Join List That Pays Sales Tax On Amazon Purchases

One major advantage that Amazon has over physical retail stores is that customers usually don’t have to pay sales tax. The company has fought hard to retain that edge, but as it has continued to grow its warehouse network, it has had to budge in a few states. Prior to today, Amazon collected sales tax on online purchases from residents of 16 states in the U.S. Starting today, residents of Indiana, Nevada and Tennessee will also have to pay sales tax on products purchased online through Amazon.

State officials believe that the levies from these three additions are going to generate over $50 million a year, collectively. The number of states where paying sales tax on Amazon purchases is compulsory is now up to 19, the list isn’t going to grow until 2016, when South Carolina will get onboard as well making it an even 20. Amazon may have voiced concerns against taxes being levied at state level, but the company has been vocal in support of Congressional efforts that seek to impose nationwide online sales tax rules. It believes that such a law would level the playing field, though it can’t be said for sure just how long will that take to happen considering the bill is currently pending in Congress.
