Sprint today announced the expansion of its 5G mobile network to Chicago. It says that approximately 700,000 people will be covered initially by the network. Chicago happens to be one of the nine markets where Sprint is launching True Mobile 5G. It’s currently available in parts of Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Kansas City with the service also being launched in select areas of Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C. in the coming weeks.
Sprint says that its 5G mobile network is going to cover approximately 2,100 square miles and 11 million people across all 9 markets, claiming that this will provide the carrier with the largest initial 5G coverage footprint in the country.
Coverage will also be limited in Chicago, initially. Sprint says that the coverage extends from IL-64 in the north to Stevenson Expressway in the South and as far as California Avenue in the west to the periphery of Lake Michigan in the east. It thus covers the popular destinations such as Magnificent Mile, River North, Millenium Park, River Front, The Loop, and Grant Park.
