Motorola Launches Moto 360 Camera Mod For Moto Z Handsets

Motorola continues to support its modular Moto Z smartphone series with new mods that further extend the capabilities of these handsets. The company’s latest mod puts a 360 degree camera on the handset. It’s aptly called the Moto 360 Camera mod and features two fisheye cameras at the very top.

Motorola hasn’t really provided much information about this mod for Moto Z handsets. It was actually unveiled at a launch event for the Moto Z down in Ghana. It’s unclear at this point in time if and when the company is going to bring this mod to other markets across the globe.

The technical specs are not known at this point in time. The resolution of the photos that this 360 degree camera can take is unknown. Motorola hasn’t confirmed how much this mod is going to cost and hasn’t even confirmed for customers in Ghana when they will be able to purchase it, let alone provide this information for customers in other markets.

Hopefully, the Lenovo-owned company is going to come out with those details soon enough. From the looks of it, the mod will cover the handset’s entire back as it would need to connect to the pogo pins located at the very bottom.

No New Motorola Smartwatch In The Pipeline

Motorola really got the ball rolling on smartwatches with circular displays a couple of years ago when it came out with the original Moto 360. However, there has been radio silence from the Lenovo-owned company over its smartwatch plans recently, but it has finally spoken up about those plans at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona. It’s not good news for Moto smartwatch fans, though.

Miles Norman, General Manager UK & Ireland & European Operators at Motorola confirmed to TechRadar at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona that the company is re-evaluating smartwatches at this point in time. “We see it as something that really needs a killer user application and that’s probably a little bit missing at the moment,” he said.

The Motorola executive acknowledged that there are some really cool smartwatches out there right now but the company is looking for something that’s “really, absolutely fantastic.” Motorola is not saying that it’s never going to make another smartwatch but it’s saying that we’ll have to wait for a while until it figures out what it wants to do in the wearable market.

Norman also confirmed that this doesn’t mean Motorola will stop selling the Moto 360 online. Those who want to pick up its smartwatch can still do so via the company’s online store.

Second-Gen Moto 360 Removed From Google Store

moto-360-new
Motorola’s first smartwatch, the original Moto 360, was very well received. It was one of the first smartwatches on the market to properly nail the circular display design but early adopters felt that it could have been more with better specifications. The second-generation Moto 360 addressed many of those concerns but it didn’t perform too well either and now Google has removed the smartwatch from its online store.

While the second-generation Moto 360 did address many of the shortcomings of the original smartwatch, its $300 price tag turned away many buyers towards more affordably priced options.

Motorola hasn’t really demonstrated any intention of making new smartwatches since then and it’s unclear when it will jump back into this game. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons why Google has decided to no longer sell the second-generation Moto 360 on the Google Store.

Google has removed the second-generation Moto 360 merely a week after it decided to no longer off all of Fossil’s Android Wear smartwatches on its online store. It appears to be getting rid of the smartwatches that aren’t doing well ahead of the launch of two new smartwatches that it has made with LG.

You can no longer buy a Moto 360 from the Google Store. The company already removed the Moto 360 Sport from the online store just a few months after the smartwatch was released. There are plenty of other online retailers who will sell you a second-generation Moto 360, though, so it’s not like you can’t get your hands on one if you really wanted to.

Verizon Discounts 2nd Gen Moto 360 By $100

Are you looking to purchase a new smartwatch? If so, perhaps you might want to check out the offer that Verizon has launched for the 2nd-generation Moto 360. It’s a robust smartwatch powered by Android Wear and is certainly worth the money. Speaking of money, Verizon is happily going to sell you a 2nd-generation Moto 360 smartwatch for $100 of its usual retail price.

Motorola’s 2nd-generation Moto 360 was released to great reviews but many people might not have bought the smartwatch due to its price, even though it’s priced close to what rivals from Samsung and Apple cost. That being said, quite a lot of customers simply picked up a smartwatch from the company’s rivals.

Perhaps they might look fondly upon Motorola’s smartwatch now that Verizon is selling it for $100 off the usual retail price. Verizon is selling the 2nd-generation Moto 360 smartwatch for $200 and that too with free shipping.

This smartwatch is future-proof as well since it’s going to be one of the few smartwatches that will support Google’s major Android Wear 2.0 release next year. Since Google’s Android Wear partners Huawei, LG, and Lenovo have confirmed that they won’t be releasing any new smartwatches in the near future, it’s likely that Motorola will be sticking with this smartwatch for some time as well.

Motorola Moto 360 Smartwatch Launched, powered by Android Wear
Another day and another Smartwatch… less than a month after MWC, where numerous wearable devices were launched, Motorola just unveiled its own Smartwatch, powered by Android Wear, also announced today.

We have received the information this morning and Motorola is sharing absolutely no information about the specifications, the exact availability date and the price. According to the dedicated website, the moto 360 will be available “this summer”.

From the official blog post and what we learned this morning about Android Wear, we know that users will be able to activate voice commands by saying “Ok Google”,  to ask for a game score, a flight schedule, to set up an appointment in the calendar, to write a text message or a note or to set the alarm clock.
