Sony Announces Over 1,000 Developers Licensed To Self-Publish On PS4

Edwin Kee March 31, 2014

The Sony PS4 has been extremely successful ever since its release, and the next generation console does look set to continue to burn up the hardware sales charts in the months (and perhaps years) ahead, although you might not want to purchase the Sony PS4 if you happen to live in South America, as that region sports some mighty high prices for the console. Having said that, the folks over at Sony are pleased to announce that there are more than 1,000 developers who have been licensed to self-publish on the PlayStation 4.

    Hands-On: Sony Morpheus Review

    Hubert Nguyen March 24, 2014

Hands On: Sony Morpheus ReviewAt GDC 2014, Sony dropped a bomb in the VR world by introducing its VR headset concept to the world (this was preceded by its share of Sony rumors). Called Morpheus, the VR headset is Sony’s way of saying that Virtual Reality came make a comeback after more than a decade after being shelved by the gaming industry. The the moment, the Sony Morpheus is still a concept, but as you can see, the Industrial design already looks pretty slick and the graphics are powered by a PS4, although nothing would prevent it from running with PS3 and the Eyetoy webcam. I tried it at GDC with the “Deep” demo, and here are my impressions: (more…)

    Sony A3500 Camera Launched

    Edwin Kee March 24, 2014

Sony A3500 Camera LaunchedSony’s Australian site had just listed the launch of the Sony A3500 mirrorless camera, but it would be extremely prudent if one were to approach this particular bit of news with caution. On paper, the Sony A3500 mirrorless camera might seem to be a new addition to the digital camera family, but in reality, it seems to be a minor revamp of the Sony A3000 which was introduced to the masses a mere half a year back, sporting a similar body and specifications including a 20.1-megapixel Exmor APS sensor, Full HD video recording capability and a continuous shooting speed of 3.5fps.

Vueling Boarding Passes On Sony Smartwatch

    Edwin Kee March 24, 2014

Vueling Boarding Passes On Sony SmartwatchThe watch has certainly moved on from being a regular timepiece to a tool that is capable of a whole lot more. In fact, how about the Sony SmartWatch 2 being used to show off your boarding pass? This might help save a whole lot of paper, considering how Vueling, the airline behind this particular initiative, ferried nearly 14.8 million passengers in the year 2012 alone. Vueling claims that this is the world’s first ‘wearable’ boarding card which will roll out from the end of this month onward.

    Tyler Lee March 10, 2014

Sony A77II Rumored For May AnnouncementWe have been hearing a lot about the Sony A77’s successor, which at the moment is apparently going to be known as the A77II which is a little odd as far as naming schemes are concerned. Unfortunately there has not been word on when the camera could be launched, and safe to say that photographers who hoped it would be revealed at CP+ in February are disappointed to say the least.

Well the good news is that according to a recent report from Sony Alpha Rumors, they claim that according to their source, they have learnt that the Sony A77II will be announced in May, or at least has been scheduled for an announcement in May. (more…)

Sony Xperia Z2′s Stereo Speakers Compared Against The Xperia Z1

    Tyler Lee March 10, 2014

The Sony Xperia Z2 is the company’s latest flagship smartphone. The handset was unveiled at MWC 2014 and naturally it did feature some upgrades over its predecessor, the Sony Xperia Z1 which was launched in the later part of 2013.

Now apart from the obvious changes in hardware, there is one piece of upgrade that is very noticeable, and that is the Xperia Z2’s stereo speakers. For those unfamiliar, the Xperia Z1 came with a mono speaker which  was more than capable of getting the job done, but when placed side-by-side with the Xperia Z2, sounded downright dull. (more…)

    Sony WX350 Compact Zoom Camera

    Tyler Lee February 12, 2014

Sony WX350 Compact Zoom CameraZoom cameras come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from DSLR cameras with extremely bulky zoom lenses, or DSLR-like cameras which are more compact and feature optical zoom, and then there are also the compact zoom cameras whose lens might not necessarily be as huge or as long as interchangeable lenses, but makes up for it by being slim and small enough to slip into your pocket. Sony’s DSC-WX350 is just that camera and if a small and pocketable zoom camera is what you’re after, perhaps this could be of interest to you. (more…)

    Sony a6000 Camera Officially Launched

    Hubert Nguyen February 12, 2014

Sony a6000 Camera Officially LaunchedSony puts an end to the a6000 (alpha 6000) camera by releasing the official specifications and information about it. First of all, keep in mind that this is an NEX-style interchangeable lens camera and not a DSLR camera. It’s not new, but if you missed it, Sony is phasing out the NEX product name, which will eventually be completely merged with the “Alpha” line of products. I know, it’s a bit confusing and I liked the NEX name, but if you do a little bit of homework, it should OK.

Sony wants to position the a6000 somewhere between NEX-5T and the DSLR a65. The goal is to provide enough quality that DSLR users would buy it because it’s compact, while at the same time targeting customers who may otherwise be shopping for a mid-range DSLR. In short, the a6000 is Sony’s sweet spot between image quality, size and price. That’s what the current NEX-6 is and therefore it will land in the same price range (around $650, body only). (more…)
