Red Nexus 5 Could Launch On February 4

    Edwin Kee January 31, 2014

Red Nexus 5 Could Launch On February 4There has been much that had been said about the upcoming Nexus 5 which will arrive in a shade of bright red, making us wonder whether this is some sort of Nokia creation instead. After all, Nokia’s collection of Lumia smartphones tend to lean more on the colorful, plastic side. We have seen extra red Nexus 5 photos make an appearance online already, which can only mean one thing – the real deal should be well on its way to roll out. The latest leaked screenshot of Sprint’s internal Playbook did point out that the red version of the Nexus 5 will be introduced to the masses this coming February 4th. Do bear in mind that nothing has been made official to date, so take it with a grain of salt.

Red Nexus 5 Picture Leaks, Apparently Releasing Next Month

    Adnan Farooqui January 26, 2014

    red-nexus-5

Google’s popular Nexus 5 smartphone is only offered in two colors right now, black and white. Its predecessor, the Nexus 4, was originally offered only in black but late last year, the company also launched a white Nexus 4 in limited quantity. Google hasn’t said anything about offering more Nexus 5 color options, but recently a few screenshots surfaced online of a purported Google Play Nexus 5 page which listed as many as eight different color options. Now a picture of a red Nexus 5 has leaked online, originating from Vietnam. The source claims that Nexus 5 will also be offered in yellow.

Nexus 5 Reportedly To Blame For LG G2′s Poor Sales

    Tyler Lee December 27, 2013

Nexus 5 Reportedly To Blame For LG G2s Poor SalesThe LG G2 is LG’s flagship smartphone of 2013 and while the handset is pretty decently specced, with a great display and awesome camera, it seems that it isn’t quite getting the love it should, at least according to reports. If the reports are to be believed, it seems that LG has only managed to sell 2 million LG G2 units to date, which is only a fraction of what they had originally intended to sell for 2013. LG had initially planned to sell 10 million units of the LG G2 but according to a report from DigiTimes, the company has only managed a fifth of those sales to date, and the reason isn’t because it’s a bad phone, but rather because it is due to the Nexus 5.

The Nexus 5 is Google’s latest Nexus device which is based on specs somewhat similar to the LG G2. It isn’t as powerful as the LG G2 or sport the same camera, but it is very decent, not to mention its asking price makes it a very attractive alternative to the LG G2 or any other smartphone available in the market today. So far apart from camera issues, the Nexus 5 has been met with generally positive reviews, giving customers little reason to go with the LG G2 unless the camera was their priority. In any case if the rumors are to be believed, LG could be working on a successor to the G2 in the form of the G3 which could debut as early as MWC 2014.

CyanogenMod Case For Nexus 5 Launched

    Edwin Kee December 19, 2013

CyanogenMod Case For Nexus 5 LaunchedThe folks over at CyanogenMod do a whole lot more than just rolling out custom operating system ROM versions for the masses, as well as working on a new smartphone that they can call their own. No sir, it seems that something apart from them has hit the market, and we are talking about the CyanogenMod case for the Nexus 5. This particular case was specially built in conjunction with CruzerLite, where it will feature CyanogenMod’s very own “cid” logo on the back, making it a fantastic method for those who support one of the most revered custom ROMs for the Android platform.

This particular CyanogenMod for Nexus 5 case has been specially designed by a CyanogenMod community member, known as Asher Simonds, who also happens to be the one behind the Nexus Experience pattern wallpapers in CyanogenMod. It will cost you $14.90 a pop, where you can choose from the following colors – black, smoke, clear and teal colors. CyanogenMod has not yet mentioned whether this happens to be a one off case, or will it be one that targets other Nexus devices some time down the road. I suppose the eventual popularity of the case would be a pretty good indicator as to whether to pursue this road or not.

    Nexus 5 Hardware Subtly Revised

    Adnan Farooqui December 15, 2013

    Nexus 5 Hardware Subtly Revised

The Nexus 5, developed by Google in collaboration with LG, was one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones of 2013. Given its particularly attractive off contract price point and impressive specifications, the device was very well received. While there exist no major issues with the batch of Nexus 5 units already shipped to hundreds of thousands of customers around the globe, it appears that subtle hardware revisions have been made which are noticeable on recently shipped units. The revisions tend to scattered complaints of “rattling” volume and power buttons, muffled sound through speakers and a protruding SIM tray.

Android 4.4.1 Release Will Fix Nexus 5 Camera Issues

    Adnan Farooqui December 5, 2013

Android 4.4.1 Release Will Fix Nexus 5 Camera Issues

We reported recently that Google might be releasing Android 4.4.1 KitKat soon, and it appears that the update is going to be rolled out over the next few days. This was confirmed today by David Burke, director of engineering for Android at Google to The Verge. He says that the update is going to bring a number of changes for the camera on Nexus 5, while the camera on Google’s latest smartphone doesn’t have any major issues, several quirks have irked users. It is with this update that the quirks will finally be taken care of.

Burke says that the team made shutter time longer on the Nexus 5 camera app to reduce the gain even longer, this was done to produce high-quality images. However, this resulted into slow image capturing speeds, which irked users. This is going to be fixed with Android 4.4.1. Moreover, the camera app will launch a second faster than before, a major speed improvement. A progress indicator will be added to HDR+ mode to make it easier for users to manage the High-Dynamic Range mode. The Nexus 5 face unlocked bug will also be fixed through this update, facial recognition often crashed the app which resulted in the device being restarted. Photo quality is going to be increased after the update too, as evident by the sample image posted above.

Google Releases Trio Of Nexus 5 Ads

    Tyler Lee November 25, 2013

It wasn’t too long ago that Google announced the Nexus 5 and while for the most part the handset appeared to share similar hardware to the LG G2, one of the things that unfortunately did not bring over was the LG G2’s camera, which based on our reviews proved to be surprisingly good. That’s not to say that the Nexus 5’s camera is bad, it’s just not what some would consider to be the best. Google seems to think otherwise and has since released a trio of videos that highlight the Nexus 5’s camera abilities and some of its features, such as HDR+, Photo Sphere, and Auto Awesome. (more…)

Official Nexus Wireless Charger Goes Up For Sale For $50

    Tyler Lee November 19, 2013

Official Nexus Wireless Charger Goes Up For Sale For $50Good news Nexus 4 and 5 owners, if you guys have been looking forward to getting your hands on official Nexus accessories, you’re in luck because the official Nexus Wireless Charger has made its way onto the Google Play store and can be yours for $50. The listing also states that the Nexus 7 will also be compatible, so it looks like tablet owners will be able to get in on the wireless charging fun as well. However given that these wireless chargers are part of the Qi standard, we expect you could find a cheaper solution out there, but then again if you want to show your love and support for the Nexus brand, this is a good way to go about doing it.

According to the product’s description, “With the Nexus Wireless Charger, your new Nexus 7 becomes the first truly wireless tablet. No more messing with wires, cords and plugs – your tablet just snaps into place on the magnetic face and begins charging. The Nexus Wireless Charger adheres securely to any surface – like your desk, counter top or nightstand – so the convenience of grab-and-go charging is always within easy reach.” So, any takers?

16GB Nexus 5 Now Back In Stock On Google Play

    Tyler Lee November 18, 2013

16GB Nexus 5 Now Back In Stock On Google PlayJust last week we reported that the 16GB Nexus 5 handset had officially gone out of stock at the Google Play store. Instead of stating a time when the handset would be made available, Google simply asked customers to check back soon. Well the good news is that it looks like stock for the 16GB Nexus 5 has quietly made its way back into the Google Play store and is currently up for order for those who are interested. According to Google Play, they list the handset as shipping from their warehouse in 3-4 weeks so it’s still going to be a bit of a wait, but we guess it’s better than nothing, right?

The Nexus 5 handset was announced at the end of October and given its rather low price, off-contract mind you, it is no surprise that the device proved to be extremely popular. That and coupled with the fact that the handset came with the latest stock version of Android 4.4 KitKat, it was unsurprising that the device sold out rather quickly. However unlike last year’s fiasco with the Nexus 4, orders for the Nexus 5 appear to be going pretty smoothly this year, so hopefully come 2014, Google will have a better grasp on the demand of their products and have more stock on hand.
