Tyler Lee March 31, 2014

iOS Tweak Brings Facebook Chat Heads Onto The iPhoneSay what you will of Facebook Home but what it has brought to Android devices is a pretty convenient chat feature called Chat Heads. For those who use Facebook, whether it be on iOS or Android, you guys have probably encountered Chat Heads which are basically icons featuring your friend’s photo that lets you chat with them.

On Android this is pretty convenient as the Chat Heads appear on the home screen, thus letting you chat with friends without having to open the Facebook or Messenger app. Unfortunately for iOS, Chat Heads is limited to the Facebook app, but if you’re running a jailbroken iOS device, perhaps Message Box might be a tweak worth checking out. Oculus Rift Team Hit With Death Threats Following Facebook Acquisition

    Tyler Lee March 31, 2014

Oculus Rift Team Hit With Death Threats Following Facebook AcquisitionWhen Facebook announced that they would be acquiring Oculus VR, not only were many people surprised, but many were apparently outraged as well. We’re not sure where all the anger is coming from, perhaps it could be that they’re worried Facebook might attempt to monetize the Oculus Rift through ads, perhaps they feel that Facebook might be trying to invade their gaming space, who knows?

All we know is that for the most part, most people just aren’t too happy about it. But could their unhappiness of the acquisition be warranted to the point where death threats are issued? According to Oculus VR’s founder, Palmer Luckey, he claims that he and his team have received death threats following the acquisition. (more…)

Facebook today announced that it is rolling out a new design for Pages. For those who don’t know, Pages are essentially public profiles for brands, celebrities and businesses. The new look of Facebook Pages is based upon the simplified Timeline design that was rolled out for the social network’s mammoth user base last year. It aims to be clean, simple and easy to read. Facebook wants to make it easier for users to locate important information related to the Pages, the new look only extends to the desktop for now.

Britons Look To Facebook To Sell Kidneys

    Edwin Kee March 10, 2014

Britons Look To Facebook To Sell KidneysTimes are hard, but after reading about this, you might be thankful that you have a roof over your head, not to mention a job to go to in the morning. Apparently, struggling Britons have already placed an offer on Facebook to sell their kidneys. Yes sir, those who are in dire straits have actually turned to social network Facebook as a medium of advertisement for their organs, with a price set up to £30,000 a pop – without taking into consideration the various medical and legal risks involved. This is no doubt an offence under the Human Tissue Act to buy or even advertise organs for sale in the UK, which means whoever does this on Facebook could be looking at the possibility of spending some time in the slammer.

Consumer Groups Wants FTC To Investigate Facebook/WhatsApp Deal

    Tyler Lee March 7, 2014

Consumer Groups Wants FTC To Investigate Facebook/WhatsApp DealA couple of weeks ago, Facebook had the industry in a frenzy when they announced that they would be acquiring instant messenger app, WhatsApp, for a whopping $19 billion, making it several more times more expensive than what they paid for Instagram which was $1 billion.

In a way this is a good move for Facebook as they would acquire one of the world’s most popular and most used instant messaging services, but it seems that not everyone is too pleased about the deal as two consumer groups have recently filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, asking them to investigate the pending acquisition. Adnan Farooqui February 9, 2014

Edit Facebook Look Back Movie Now Possible

Facebook recently turned 10 and to celebrate that milestone it showed off its data mining prowess by letting users automatically generate “Look Back” movies. To create these movies, the world’s largest social network takes many parameters into account and then comes up with a short movie that features a users’ most popular photos uploaded throughout their time on Facebook. Not all of its more than one billion users like the automatically generated movies, some believed that the pictures were not quite representative of what they are now as opposed to what they were a few years ago. At first it was just rumors that Facebook will launch an editor to end these complaints, but now its official. You can easily edit Facebook Look Back movie using the new editor.

Facebook Turns 10: What Does It Mean To You?

    Edwin Kee February 5, 2014

Facebook Turns 10: What Does It Mean To You?So, the hugely popular social network known as Facebook has just turned 10, and in the past decade, it has been quite an adventure since Mark Zuckerberg and a bunch of his friends kicked off TheFacebook.com in a dorm room on February 4, 2004. In fact, Zuckerberg and his friends have become billionaires since then, and extremely young ones at that. Over the past 10 years, Facebook has managed to attract a whopping 1.1 billion users, and imagine the amount of time spent on the social network – posting up of food photos, plenty of selfies, a race between your group to get as many Likes as possible, holiday photos, the works. All of this would translate to a whole lot of time, and you can make use of TIME’s calculator in order to check out the number of days of your life you have spent on Facebook.

Facebook Paper Name Disputed By Developers FiftyThree

    Tyler Lee February 4, 2014

Facebook Paper Name Disputed By Developers FiftyThreeJust last week Facebook announced its brand new Paper app which was basically a new way for Facebook users to view their News Feed. The app has since been made available for download but only to those using iPhones and are living in the US. Now if you’re wondering why you might have heard the name “Paper” before, it is because back in 2012, developers FiftyThree announced an app called Paper. The app is completely different from Facebook’s app in the sense that it is a drawing app and has nothing to do with social media (apart from the fact that you can share your drawings). (more…)

Facebook Paper Not Launching For Android Or International Markets Yet

    Tyler Lee February 4, 2014

Facebook Paper Not Launching For Android Or International Markets YetAs you might have heard, Facebook’s Paper app is now available for download starting today. The app was announced last week and it was basically a new way of viewing your Facebook News Feed. So far most of the early reviews of the app have been pretty positive and we’re sure by now many of you guys are eager to get your hands on it. Unfortunately that will not be happening anytime soon if you don’t live in the US and if you don’t have an iPhone. The app was initially launched for iPhone devices and we were wondering when it would be released for the iPad and Android devices.

However the folks at Facebook have recently confirmed to Pocket-Lint where they stated that a release for the iPad version, Android, and international users will not be happening anytime soon. This is because resources are limited at this time, in the sense that there are about fifteen people that are part of the Paper team at the moment. We’re guessing Facebook did not anticipate that there would be such a high demand for its Paper app as it was initially conceived as an experiment of sorts and was a testing ground for Facebook design. Either way here’s hoping that Paper will see a release on other platforms and international markets in the near future.
