Amazon Smartphone Release Expected Later This Year

Over the past few months there have been a lot of rumors about the devices that Amazon is believed to be working on. Some say that the company is building a game console, others believe that perhaps its working on a set top box. For over a year now it has been rumored that Amazon is looking to get into the smartphone game. Its expected to build one that would run a highly forked version of Android, like its Kindle tablets. While nothing concrete has materialized, recent rumors suggest that the Amazon smartphone release is slated for this year.

    Amazon Game Console Controller Pictured

    Hubert Nguyen March 14, 2014

Amazon Game Console Controller PicturedSince mid-2013, rumors have been swirling around a potential Amazon.com console or Android “game box” that would cost less than $300 (which still sounds high for an Android box). I thought that the rumors did have some credibility because Amazon has been hiring a number of engineers that have worked in video-game related positions, but the photo of the controller below is yet another tangible indication that this is all real. Amazon’s Project Aria Smartphone Rumored For This Year

    Tyler Lee March 14, 2014

Amazons Project Aria Smartphone Rumored For This YearWhile the rumors of Amazon making their own Android tablets proved to be true, we have also been hearing that Amazon might be interested in entering the smartphone market as well. However fast forward to 2014 and we still haven’t seen or heard anything yet, apart from rumors and speculation.

A new report from The Information has revealed that those plans may finally come into fruition later this year, where Amazon could be looking to launch their smartphone, which is reportedly known internally as Project Aria (not to be confused with Google’s Project Ara), in multiple markets including the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. UAE Intends To Use Delivery Drones As Well

    Edwin Kee February 11, 2014

UAE Intends To Use Delivery Drones As WellWill drones take over the world eventually? Perhaps, or perhaps not. A Skynet-like experience from the Terminator movie franchise should still be some ways off, but this does not mean that society could eventually make the move to accept drones to perform mundane tasks such as delivery. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government is the latest party with plans to make use of high-tech drones when it comes to the delivery of official documents and packages, and they have set a time frame of one year to get the job done. Touted to be the first project of its kind, the battery-powered quadcopters that will be used are touted to be a wee bit smaller compared to a Parrot AR.Drone 2.0. Some of the items that such drones will deliver include small-sized packages including (but not limited to) identity cards, driving licenses and other permits.

Amazon Flow Integration: AR To Build Your Shopping List

Amazon Flow Integration: AR To Build Your Shopping List

The Flow technology (above: shown on Android) is now integrated in Amazon for iOS

Amazon has recently updated its iOS mobile app to let users add products directly by taking pictures of them. In some ways, works like previous apps that would let buyers scan the bar codes to find what the lowest prices. Since this app uses a database of known product images, it tends to work best with packaged good, and not fruits and vegetables. Packaging boxes are easier to identify because a “fingerprint” can be reliably generated from the packaging artwork. (more…)

Amazon Video Ads Business Gets Detailed

    Adnan Farooqui February 5, 2014

Amazon Video Ads Business Gets Detailed

Amazon usually doesn’t talk much about its ad business, it doesn’t break down revenues from advertising in its fiscal quarterly earnings reports. Even if the company talks about the business at various industry events, those presentations normally don’t offer much insight into the business. According to estimates by market research firms, Amazon’s ad revenue may have topped $800 million last year, which translates into roughly one percent of its total revenue. Straying from its usual line, the company today offered some details about its ads business, particularly video ads.

Amazon Prime Membership Cost May Rise Soon

In the nine years since Amazon Prime was first launched, the service’s price has remained constant, its a $79 per year subscription that gives customers free two-day shipping of over 19 million goods purchased through the world’s largest online marketplace. Unfortunately, its possible that the Amazon Prime membership cost might go up in the near future. Amazon said in a call with investors and analysts that an increase between $20 and $40 is possible for customers in the U.S.

Sub-$300 Amazon Console Reportedly In Development

    Edwin Kee January 28, 2014

amazon-4k-programmingDo you think that the video game console market has gotten more saturated with Microsoft joining in the fray, or are the big three – Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony just nice, maintaining the balance of power perfectly among them? Word on the street has it that another player might yet make its way to the game console market, and that would be Amazon. This is certainly rather weird considering the nature of the company as well as the businesses that it is involved in. A new rumor through unnamed sources has pointed out that Amazon delayed the introduction of their Android-based console, although the company has promised a 2014 rollout with a price tag that is under $300.

Amazon Looking To Ship Items Even Before You Buy Them

    Adnan Farooqui January 19, 2014

Amazon Looking To Ship Items Even Before You Buy Them

It goes without saying that Amazon has a treasure trove of data on consumer habits, but how can it leverage said data to further improve its service and deal a death blow to physical stores? ”Anticipatory shipping” might be the answer, which just so happens to be the name of a new patent granted to the Seattle based online retailer. This patent describes a method of shipping items to a delivery hub in a specific area where Amazon expects customers to purchase them quite a lot, but haven’t ordered as yet. The decision to ship an item to a hub would be based on previous orders from that particular area and a few other factors.

There are a lot of Veronica Mars fans out there who just can’t get enough of the TV series. The company announced today that Prime Instant Video is now the exclusive online only subscription home for the Veronica Mars TV series, with all three seasons being available for on demand streaming.

Director of Digital Video Content Acquisition, Brad Beale, said that the company knows just how popular the series has been on DVD and Instant Video for years, and now its able to offer the entire three season series to Prime members at no extra charge. Last week the official Veronica Mars movie trailer was released online following a successful crowdfunding campaign launched by Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell. Bell stars as the lead character on the show and in the movie. The campaign became the most widely backed campaign in Kickstarter history with over 91,000 donors pitching in.
